Local Gymnastics Center Conquers in San Diego

Competing in any sport at a young age is difficult, but for some it’s a way of life. The girls’ gymnastics team from Azarian Gymnastics Training Center in Aliso Viejo took San Diego by storm at the 2006 2^nd Prelim competition on September 16 against over 12 teams from all over California.

The 2^nd Prelim was the second competition for the Level 4, 5, and 6 girls so far this season. The 1^st Prelim was held on September 16-17 at Azarian Gymnastics was a very successful meet.

For some of the girls on the Level 4 Team, this is their first year competing. Some didn’t really know what to expect.

“My goal is to make these girls comfortable to get out their in front of everyone and do their best, because they are more than capable,” said Eduard Azarian, owner of Azarian Gymnastics and World and Olympic Gold medalist himself.

And capable they were, the Level 4 team, although their first year competing, placed 1^st in the team competition and did a great job individually.

The Level 5 girls did amazing as well, finishing 2^nd place in the team competition. Some of the top scores included; Callie Riel, 3^rd place all around, Alyssa Webb, 4^th place all around and 1^st place on Vault, Kayli Davies, 5^th place all around, and Mikayla Kelly, 1^st place on beam with a score of 9.225. All the girls did an amazing job and rounded up the top 12 gymnasts in their level.

The Level 6 girls definitely did not disappoint. They all had an amazing meet finishing 4^th in the team competition and all finishing up within the top 14 gymnastics in their level. Some of the highlights included; Lisa Lohde, 1^st place on beam with a score of 9.500, Elizabeth Wright finishing 4^th place all around, Nicole Carter scoring a 9.050 on beam, and Lexa Wroniak finishing 6^th all around.

With the 2^nd Prelim complete and the 3^rd prelim and State Championships on its way, the girls are in high spirits and ready to show you what they can do.
